Living in Dubai
Dubai has been blessed both by location and tradition. In the old days Dubai’s natural creek attracted traders from all over the world, today due to it’s strategic location mid-way between Europe and Asia, Dubai still continues to attract people from all corners of the world.

Dubai’s friendly, safe and virtually crime free environment, modern infrastructure, hotels, international cuisine and facilities of the highest international standards, has made it one of the fastest growing tourist, residential and business destinations in the Middle East.
Climate
The promise of year round warm weather and sunshine is what attracts a lot of people to Dubai. Dubai has a hot and sometimes humid climate with many months recording temperatures over 40 degrees celsius. Rainfall usually occurs during the months of January, February and March and is generally light. During the winter months heavy rain isn't uncommon and temperatures become much more pleasant.
Language
Although Arabic is the official language of Dubai, English which is the most widely spoken, Hindi, Urdu, Farsi, Pashtu and a host of other languages are spoken reflecting Dubai's cosmopolitan culture.
Money
The local currency is the UAE dirham, which is divided into 100 fils. Notes are in the denominations of 500, 200, 100, 50, 20, 10 and 5. Coins are in the denominations of 1 dirham, 50 fils and 25 fils.
Visas

Entertainment & Shopping
Being a very cosmopolitan city, Dubai offers a wide choice of international cuisines. High-tech theaters, leisure centres, bars, clubs and restaurants can be found all over the city. Alcohol is freely available in restaurants located in hotels, certain selected outlets and at liquor stores with a permit.
Dubai is a shopper's paradise with shopping extending from small traditional souks to large shopping malls, from the latest electronic and brand label fashion items to traditional Arabic handicraft, jewelry and rugs. Dubai combines the comfort and convenience of the Western world with the unique charm of the Middle East.
Religion
Islam is the official religion of the UAE. Freedom of worship is allowed to all religions. Churches and temples frequented by the expatriate community can be found in the country.
Social Customs
Locals are known for their hospitality and as refreshments are always offered to the visitor, it is a polite gesture to accept. A handshake on meeting and bidding farewell is a must. Before entering a house it is customary to take off one's shoes. Care must be taken not to show the soles of ones feet to the host.
Being an Islamic country, dress should be modest, especially during the month of Ramadan. Swimming trunks and bikinis are acceptable at the pool or on the beach only.
